The Journal
Welcome
Welcome to The Meatless Method, and thank you for taking the time to be here.
My name is TJ Delaney. I’m a fitness instructor and personal trainer by profession, as well as an independent singer-songwriter. I’ve worked in the fitness industry for the past eight years, and during that same time I’ve followed a completely plant-based diet and lifestyle.
Over the years, I’ve helped numerous people achieve their fitness goals, while also sharing the knowledge I’ve gained about not just surviving, but truly thriving on a plant-based lifestyle. But enough boosting my own ego.
The Meatless Method is more than a diet model or a training plan. It’s a lifestyle shift. A movement.
I believe the future is plant-based. And while I understand that many people won’t go fully vegan overnight, or even at all, I do believe that most people can move toward a more plant-forward way of living. One that supports not only physical health, but also mental clarity, spiritual alignment, and environmental sustainability.
My mission is simple:
To help spread the benefits of a more plant-based lifestyle to as many people as possible.
Why I Chose This Path
Today, I’m plant-based for the animals and for the planet. But I wasn’t always.
Like many, I was raised in what you might call a “normal” household, an omnivorous diet, a fairly sedentary lifestyle, and very little awareness of how those choices affected my body or the world around me.
Fast-forward to when I was 18, and I had one of the most life-changing experiences of my life. Out of curiosity, and admittedly some recklessness, I experimented with Lysergic Acid Diethylamide (LSD).
I know this may invite judgment, but leaving this out would mean leaving out a huge part of how I became the person I am today.
For those unfamiliar, LSD is a psychedelic compound that can produce hallucinations, euphoria, and deeply altered states of consciousness. While I’ve had some incredibly profound experiences with it, I’ve also experienced the darker side. Paranoia, delusion, and moments of absolute mental chaos. Because of that, I want to be clear: I do not encourage anyone to follow in my footsteps.
So how does this relate to a plant-based lifestyle?
Patience…I’m getting there.
The Moment that Changed everything
Picture this.
It’s a beautiful summer day in England. Birds fill the air with song. Flowers are in full bloom, drawing in clusters of honeybees as they move gently from plant to plant. On its own, it’s a peaceful scene. But at the peak of an LSD experience, it felt like pure bliss.
As my sense of self began to dissolve, what’s often referred to as ego death, I became overwhelmed with a flood of thoughts and emotions. The bees I was watching were simply doing what they were meant to do. No harm. No malice. Just existing in harmony with the planet, playing their role in what felt like a vast cosmic dance. It was beautiful. And then the contrast hit me.
Every living being seemed to have its place in that rhythm—every animal, every organism…except us. Our impact on the planet, on animals, and on one another suddenly felt… parasitic.
The deeper I went, the more intense the feeling became. I felt an overwhelming sympathy for the planet itself. The best way I can describe it is this: any action that harms the planet or other beings felt like an act of self-harm. Because beneath the ego, beneath the labels and identities, we are one.
This isn’t an idea I can fully explain with words, it was a feeling. And if you’ve ever experienced ego death, you’ll understand exactly what I mean. That day changed me forever.
Becoming Who I Knew I Had to Be
After that experience, continuing to live the way I had before felt wrong. I knew it was wrong.
Contributing to animal agriculture.
Being careless with the planet.
Causing unnecessary harm.
That wasn’t who I was anymore, and it wasn’t who I wanted to be.
So I changed.
Eight years later, I still remember that day as if it happened yesterday.
